Hyssop (Hyssopus officinalis)
About this plant
Perennial. Member of the mint family with aromatic, narrow leaves. Small, scented pink to blue/purple flowers appear in mid-summer to fall which are highly attractive to bees. Produces large amount of seed which attracts birds in winter. Self seeding.
Notes: Traditional hyssop is not native to BC, but several Agastache species, commonly called giant hyssop or anise hyssop, are native to the province. These include Agastache foeniculum (anise hyssop), which is native to much of Canada, including parts of BC, and Agastache urticifolia (nettle-leaved giant hyssop), which is found in the interior of southern BC.
